Question: Can you point us to some cool demo like examples of javascript to see the "best of the best"? I'd like to have some idea of what we can expect to achieve (those of us who have never touched javascript before).

Thanks,

Chris

 :goodpost: Nice!

I'll put something together over the weekend, involving some pies I think.

I was going to make a game involving the first 1 million digits of pi, but that might be a touch slow. I don't know until I try though. It might also get boring after the first 100000 digits.

Va!n,

arent those just "movies". In the sense that its just a series of GIF images? The index is chosen depending on mouse position is all. In which case it may qualify but its not really the spirit fo the compo I think. Ck0, you say "nice" so is that the kind of thing you are thinking about? I'll just go and create an animated GIF of the star wars movie...

:-)

Damn, fooled again!

They looked good though, wasn't sure how they were done in JavaScript.
Animated gifs - makes sense.

Maybe I should have added that you must use JavaScript as the main gimmick, not animated gifs/pngs, but that really goes without saying I think.

I'm on with "Pie Rats of the Carribean: Curse of the Black Pie", a 2-4 player puzzle game with loads of set-up options, none of which show much depth, but it should set the standard if it is posted first.

It is about 55% done.

Cool. Hoping to get something done, too. But I guess I concentrate on a little
fx or simple casual game. Will see...

I'll throw some ideas into the air:

A game which requires you to make pies to order - pies, fillings and pastry tops flow on a conveyor and you have to match the ingredients to the orders while wasting as little food as possible.

A game which requires you to type in each digit of Pi in succession - though this could get boring.

A Pie delivery game.

A demo which adds one pie to the display every so often and has them all moving in weird and wonderful ways.

Snake (eating pies instead of apples.) You could call it "Piethon".

A ascii-art game where you fly a ship (in the shape of a Pi symbol) and shoot dashes at the enemy.

A demo which calculates Pi to as many digits as possible (algorithms exist somewhere on the internet - they could be very easily converted into JavaScript).

Feel free to use any of these ideas if you wish.

My Pie Rats game is about 85% there now.

Just a few tweeks to the code which determines how many possible moves each player has on their turn and it's just about finished.

I might even code some AI for it...

Anyone else working on entries?

Pie Rats is almost done - just the last few tweeks to the AI and it will be unbeatable!

Doesn't look like there are enough Javascript users here. :(
Please prove me wrong! The compo is almost over.
